About Our Program

Coaching Philosophy

We will work towards making each athlete a student of the game of volleyball. We strive to develop commitment, confidence, determination, discipline and pride in each and every athlete in our program. We use teaching methods that are flexible and dynamic to fit the unique athletic and cognitive abilities of each individual. We emphasize a positive and encouraging learning environment in which athletes can excel.

Playing Time

Our coaching staff does not guarantee equal playing time for everyone. Players are evaluated in several areas throughout the season that establish the amount of playing time earned:

  • Athletic ability, knowledge of the game and fundamental skill execution
  • Consistency during matches and skill development during practice
  • Leadership ability or contribution in supporting role
  •

All players will be encouraged and directed to develop skills in all aspects of the game. Those players who are able to develop a complete game will have the most opportunities to play. As the season progresses, players may become more specialized into specific roles. A player’s ability to contribute positively to the team will be a factor which impacts playing time as well. How a player adds to or distracts from the team’s performance in practice and competition as compared to a teammate who performs a similar role will directly impact the playing time a player earns.

During competition, coaches may be evaluating and adjusting lineups to consider opponent match-ups and addressing opportunities for individual growth and improvement. There are a number of considerations why some players may receive more court time than others. Players (and parents) are expected to understand and accept their role as defined by the coach and support the philosophy that the collective performance of the team unit has priority.

    Communication

The player, coach and team will benefit from the development of a quality rapport. Players understand their roles and what is expected of them. Coaches are consistent, constructive, and clear in establishing and reinforcing their expectations of players.

We ask that open, honest, and respectful communication will occur between players, coaches and parents at all times. If there is a concern that needs to be addressed between a player and his/her coach, the player must arrange a meeting time with the coach outside of scheduled practice times and match days. Parents and or the Athletic Director may be involved. All parties are asked to maintain a respectful and honest attitude.
