Ian has been playing and coaching basketball in competitive environments for about 10 years. He played high school ball at Issaquah High and went on to play at BCC for just a year. He then decided he wanted to go to UW and wasn't going to play there, so he had to hang up the shoes. Ian started coaching in the youth ranks when he was at UW, coaching the Issaquah 6th grade select team. He went on to graduate from UW in Comparative History of Ideas and attended Antioch University where he finished his Masters Degree in Education. During that time he coached the boys junior varsity team at Issaquah High school. Ian has always believed in defense and never would have played the minutes he did if he wasn't always diving for balls, understanding his role, and being the emotional support that his team needed. Ian believes the more each player accepts his role and believes in his team, the better his experience will be. He also believes that sometimes this can be humbling, but in the long run it will always lead to a stronger core. One of Ian’s favorite quotes is from Coach K at Duke, “The finger by itself has very little impact, but when clenched with the other ones to form a fist, it becomes a part of a very powerful weapon”.
