Allocation Criteria

Below is the criteria for consideration for funding by S.T.E.P.S:

  1. Identify the specific item, event or need.  Be specific!
  2. Define the goal or plan for how the money will be used.
  3. Share your research on this item, program or event:

·         Is it the lowest price?

·         What is the possibility of it being donated or sponsored?

·         Program effectiveness?

·         What is the long term benefit to the SHS community?

  1. Are you pursuing money from any other sources
  2. What other fund raising have you done?
  3. How many SHS students will benefit from this funding and in what ways?
  4. What part of the school will benefit from this funding (group, club, class, activity, etc.)?
  5. Has S.T.E.P.S funded this activity or program in past three years?  If so, identify activity/program by year and funding obtained.
  6. How will you report back to S.T.E.P.S regarding the success of the program?
  7. How will you identify ways to improve the program in the future to get the biggest bang for your funding?
  8. Who will represent your group at the S.T.E.P.S meeting when the funding request is considered?

Funding request process

  • Fill out a S.T.E.P.S Funding request form:

Funding Request (Word Format)
Funding Request (PDF Format)

  • Email the request form to the Allocation Chair at no later than the Monday prior to the S.T.E.P.S meeting (2nd Monday of the month in the Library).
  • Identify who is attending the meeting from your group and email vpallocations@sammamishtotems.org that persons name, phone number (cell phone preferred) and email address.  This can be a SHS staff member, a student or small group of students, or a SHS parent.  A 2 to 3 minute presentation about the request (briefly covering the criteria above) is expected at the S.T.E.P.S meeting and question and answer session.  It is helpful to have someone who is passionate about your request and how it will benefit the SHS community.
  • Be sure that the S.T.E.P.S meeting attendee puts it on their calendar!
  • S.T.E.P.S. Allocations Chair reviews request and makes sure it is complete.  She will contact your meeting attendee with any questions, need for additional information, etc.
  • Allocations Chair will discuss request with SHS Principal, Athletic Director and others as appropriate.
  • S.T.E.P.S Allocations Committee develops a recommendation prior to the meeting.
  • Funding requests greater that $2,000 require approval of a majority of the S.T.E.P.S Officers prior to being presented and discussed at a S.T.E.P.S meeting.
  • Funding requests are placed on the S.T.E.P.S meeting agenda by the Allocations Chair for discussion and vote.
  • Checks are provided within two weeks of approval by S.T.E.P.S.
