New WIAA weight management rules are in effect this year...
-
Prepare now for the weight class division you are planning to
compete in.
-
No more artificial weight loss, all weight classifications will be
strictly controlled and monitored by and independent source
-
No more dramatic weight loss across a season, records will be kept
and checked to insure weight management is within the WIAA rules.
-
No more; Oh! I didn’t make weight so I will wrestle up a weight
class. If you do, that will become your official weight class for
the remainder of the season.
-
Dehydration testing will be done. E.g. no more spitting in a cup or
jumping rope to cut that last pound before a match. We are
scheduling to go to the Roosevelt High School Specific Gravity Test.
Please bring $5.00 to pay for your test.
The test is mandatory to compete. If you fail to make the scheduled
test arrangements to be tested at another location will be your
responsibility. A sign up meeting will be held at 3:00 PM Monday
November 5th at the Cafeteria.

As we prepare for the winter season, it is time to start planning out when and where your wrestlers will be assessed for the weight management program. On the Eastside, there are a number of Regional Assessment sites at different locations and times to meet the needs of many of our surrounding schools. Start with an assessment on day one, Oct. 29th.

Why turn out for high school wrestling?
High school wrestling is some of the cheapest, best physical training you're ever likely to find in your life. You can train two or three hours a day, five days a week, for no cost. You'll have experienced competitors as team mates who have a vested interest in making you a better wrestler (so you can win your matches for the team).
Some bits of wrestling are only useful for actual wrestling, but you can take the following skills into submission grappling, mixed martial arts, or defending your self in real fights. The best take downs and take down defenses that don't make use of clothing, the ability to control someone when on top of them, and incredible fitness and conditioning. Wrestling will give you a great physical base to work off of. You will be able to control if the contest will stay up (take down defenses) or go down (take downs and throws). If you play football, your conditioning will excel as well as improving your tackling skills. You will also learn to handle the adrenaline rush you feel before matches. Competing in front of the whole school does that.
So as far as intensity and progress are concerned, you're covered. As to what you'll be learning:
· Self Reliance
· Mental Toughness
· Work Ethic
· Competitive Spirit
· Responsibility
· Self Discipline
· Goal Orientation
· Confidence
......Skills that you will use through out the rest of your life.
Wrestlers learn, by the nature of the sport, that long-term success has much more to do with the investment made than the “natural” gifts one is given. Wrestlers learn the value of preparation and hard work, and the role it plays in achieving one’s goals. Wrestling provides real-life experiences that build and strengthen you for life.
High School Wrestling ROCKS. Do it, you’ll, have fun, great team camaraderie, life long memories, and it will put you in great shape.
